GuildOne Inc. (GuildOne) is proud to announce that it has been selected as the 2018 winner of the ASTech award for Outstanding Achievement in Information and Communications Technology. “This award is a true honour,” said James Graham, GuildOne CEO and President. “It is a reflection of the pioneering multi-sectoral work being done in Alberta not just by the GuildOne team, but by our industry partners and invaluable organizations like ASTech, who recognize the need for – and benefits of – a robust multi-sectoral innovation ecosystem in Alberta.”
ASTech (Alberta Science and Technology Leadership Foundation) is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1989 through an industry initiative to showcase achievements in science and technology in Alberta and to promote the importance of these activities for social and economic benefit. The ASTech Awards celebrate innovation and excellence in Alberta and are the province’s most prestigious science and technology honours.
This award attests to the major potential of innovative technologies such as blockchain, smart contracts and machine learning to transform the oil and gas sector and many other industries. In February 2018, GuildOne announced a world-first proof-of-concept (PoC) oil and gas royalty transaction. The transaction was conducted on the company’s Royalty Ledger application using R3’s Corda on Amazon Web Services, in conjunction with key industry partners.
Graham, who was also selected as one of ASTech’s 2018 Humans of Alberta Innovation, believes that investment in organizations such as ASTech has created the foundation for a thriving technology ecosystem in Alberta. “That’s very exciting because we’re now at a stage where you don’t have to leave Calgary or Alberta to avail yourself of the benefits of technology development,” he said. “When it comes to innovation, pioneering and courage, Calgarians and Albertans are very well equipped to succeed in this transformation.”
GuildOne’s distributed ledger innovation Royalty Ledger helps oil and gas companies and landowners encode their negotiated smart contract into one system, carrying out all subsequent digital transactions based on the agreed-upon terms. Through the system, each royalty transaction becomes a record in a permanent ledger, making the metadata traceable, indisputable and tamperproof.
In addition to this prestigious award, GuildOne’s President and CEO, James Graham was highlighted as one of the “Humans of Alberta Innovation”. In this video, James tells his story of how he was inspired by Alberta and Saskatchewan success stories to use technology to drive value locally and regionally.
